Accommodation in Mayrhofen ranges from the very basic (but usually very clean and functional) to 5 star resort / hotel accommodation. There is a free ski bus that does the rounds in Mayrhofen taking skiers and boarders from outlying accommodation to either of the two lifts that leave Mayrhofen, the Ahornbahn (replaced for 2006/07) and the Penkenbahn which accesses the main Penken ski area at Mayrhofen. Skiers on the Ahorn ski area can ski back to Mayrhofen in the right conditions but those on the Penken side of the valley have to download or ski to either Finkenberg or Hippach. Accommodation location is of importance as the Penkenbahn runs out of the centre of Mayrhofen and for those wanting to use the main ski area and have good proximity to the lift a hotel or other accommodation should be sought close to the Penkenbahn.
