In the wide valley floor around Mayrhofen cross-country skiing takes place on 4 tracks known locally as the Rundloipe Mayrhofen, Rundloipe Burgstall, Rundloipe Kumbichl and the Loipe Tux-Lanersbach (Rundloipe basically meaning a looped circuit). In total there are 13 cross-country skiing trails adding up to over 30km of trials in the Mayrhofen area. With peaks rising to more than 2km above and beyond the valley floor and riverside trails the scenery is incredible in this section of the valley. Cross-country skiing gear can be rented from the ski rental shops, whilst novices can take lessons from the local ski schools should they wish. As well as being great for the body and mind those on the valley floor cross-country skiing trails don’t need to buy a ski lift pass to get their kicks.
