The obvious place to go for families skiing in Mayrhofen is the Ahorn area. It is safe and easy to get to in the new Ahorn cable car and at the top station there are new facilities on hand at the top-station. The skiing just beneath the Ahorn lift station is all easy with a cluster of blue piste offering a great area for beginners and the atmosphere is generally relaxed and good for families. The options at the end of the day are a cable car or alternatively a long red piste back to the resort. The second ski area in Mayrhofen along with the Ahorn is the Penken and there is a kids learning area located directly at the top of the Ahorn gondola. The ski schools operate in this area and there are moving carpets and mushrooms to ski through. For families looking to cover a good deal of ground then the Penken side has far more terrain whilst those families looking for an easy and compact area then the Ahorn would be preferable.
