Mayrhofen is legendary in snowboarding circles – it has one of the most famous terrain parks in the world – the Vans Penken Park and is the ‘birthplace’ of the Ästhetiker crew, a visionary group of snowboarding friends who came together and made a huge mark on the snowboard scene from this corner of the Zillertal Valley. As well as these recognised highlights, the Mayrhofen area and the Zillertal 3000 reion offer a huge amount for snowboarders. The Better Park on the Hintertux Glacier offers year-round park action whilst the off-piste in the Penken area is a dream for snowboarders with steep off-piste on North facing, snow laden routes. Marketing managers in resorts worldwide extol the virtues of their area for snowboarders – the truth is many resorts are the same – Mayrhofen though is must visit area for all snowboarders.

Voted the European Park of the year 2010 by the readers of the Snowboarder MBM Magazine, the Vans Penken Park Mayrhofen has long been recognised as a leading innovator of freestyle snowboarding and skiing. The Vans Penken Park Mayrhofen is now served by a comfortable 4-seater chair to ensure that skills and energy are utilised on the way down the park and not on getting back up. Other comforts include a on-site mountain Alm serving refreshments, music and atmosphere. For all keen snowboarders the Vans Penken Park Mayrhofen is a must-visit location.

Dieter Steinhardt, Bernd Egger and Steve Gruber started the Ästhetiker crew back in 1990s as a mighty talented group of snowboarding friends who partied as hard as they flew. Ästhetiker are still involved in most anti-career pursuits like snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding. Luckily for them they have managed to make a career out of it and today they have a range of Ästhetiker gear, get on the mountains or in the waves when they can and party nearly as hard. Their HQ is in Mayrhofen which says all it needs to do about their roots in the snowboarding epicentre.
