Not only is the Zillertal Valley the home of the hugely impressive Mayrhofen, it is also host to very many other ski holiday resorts – as a ski region then the Zillertal Valley is very tough to beat in the Alps. It has height with the 3200m+ Hintertux Glacier offering year round / 365 day skiing, a ‘super ski pass’ that offers over 650km of ski piste and 170 lifts and numerous authentic and welcoming villages. The Zillertal Valley has a train running its length until Mayrhofen and is the home to numerous world and Olympic ski champions. For the record the Zillertal Valley also has a brewery in Zell am Ziller that produces the exceptionally fine Zillertal Beer.

Ski Optimal is the region located at the head of the valley and offers fantastic vertical of close to 2km. It is the home ski area of Stephan Eberharter whose name adorns the downhill valley run that allows a vertical of almost 2kmas well as the famous Kristallhϋtte which offers art and food of the highest order in the Hochzillertal ski area.

The Zillertal 3000 region comprises of the Mayrhofen Penken area, the Eggalm area that joins it above Lanersbach / Finkenberg and the mighty Hintertux Glacier – the only 365 glacier skiing area in Austria, reaching 3250m. The Vans Penken Park and the Harakiri ski piste are 2 of the highlights of the Penken area.

The Zillertal Arena is the biggest ski region in the Zillertal Valley and offers superb intermediate skiing with high altitude, dramatic links between the various sections of the Zillertal Arena ski region. It is possible to ski all the way from Zell am Ziller over to Hochkrimml and back making for a fantastic ski safari.
