Finkenberg is situated after the first steep rise in the Zillertal Valley as you head south along the valley. Some 210m above Mayrhofen the bigger neighbour is visible below and to the north of Finkenberg, along with superb views along the Zillertal Valley. Finkenberg is built along the climbing and winding road with the Finkenberg gondola, church, shops and a number of hotels along this section of the resort. To the east there is a larger and more populated section of Finkenberg that tends to occupy a flatter section of the valley. Finkenberg is pretty much central in the linked part of the Zillertal 3000 ski region and the resorts of Mayrhofen and Lanersbach (in the opposite direction) can be reached on the slopes or by free ski bus. Finkenberg is a pretty relaxed resort with far less apres ski action than Mayrhofen down in the valley. It also has far fewer facilities open to the public – instead it is a relaxing place to stay and access the excellent Zillertal 3000 ski region with most of the resort amenities being located in the hotels of Finkenberg.
