Mayrhofen is probably the best known ski holiday resort in the Zillertal Valley – it has superb and diverse skiing as well as a vibrant and high quality resort. Skiing in Mayrhofen takes place on both sides of the valley with the Ahorn and Penken ski areas offering very different options to visitors. The Ahorn side of the valley is ideal for beginners and families. The skiing is gentle and the new cable car and top station offer excellent facilities. Pretty much all the skiing located around the Ahorn cable car top station is blue and gentle with just a couple of reds, including the 5km+ red piste back down to Mayrhofen. The Penken side of the Mayrhofen ski are is very different with a huge variety of terrain which is ideal for intermediate skiers and snowboarders and above. The Penken area offers intermediates some great runs out into the Zillertal 3000 for some long ski safaris whilst the better skiers and snowboarders have some of the steepest terrain, both on and off-piste in the whole of the Zillertal Valley. Mayrhofen also has the superb Vans Penken Park, voted the best in the Alps in 2010 and a real centre of freestyle ski and snowboard action for the region.
