Mayrhofen is located at the southern end of the Zillertal Valley before the road climbs and winds its way further to the south and the Hintertux Glacier. Mayrhofen occupies a wide and flat section of the Zillertal Valley, is the principal resort of the region and has endless excellent resort facilities and amenities. Shopping and entertainment are also excellent and apres ski in Mayrhofen is unmatched in the Zillertal Valley. Mayrhofen is also the last stop on the Zillertalbahn railway that winds its way south along the Zillertal Valley – the station is located between the central area of the resort and the main valley river. Mayrhofen is one of the best equipped resorts in the entire region with excellent public leisure facilities, plenty of dining and drinking options and a good range of shopping that goes beyond the ski gear and hire shops. A gondola and a cable car leave form central areas in Mayrhofen and access the 2 ski areas of Mayrhofen – those of Penken and Ahorn – located on opposing sides of the valley. Mayrhofen covers a good sized area and is all low rise. It is an attractive and vibrant resort that is also popular in the summer months giving it a year round feel.
